Work and Settle in Canada in 6-12 Months or Less: The Canada Express Entry Program offers a streamlined pathway for professionals seeking to establish themselves in Canada. This points-based immigration program evaluates candidates based on skills, experience, Canadian employment status, and provincial/territorial nomination. Higher points enhance the likelihood of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Permanent Residency in Canada, with applications typically processed within 6-12 months or fewer.

Understanding Express Entry: Express Entry is not an independent immigration program but rather an online system designed to manage Canada’s immigration application intake. Eligible applicants submit an online profile, known as an Expression of Interest (EOI), under one of three federal Canada immigration programs or a participating provincial immigration program, entering the Express Entry Pool.

Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS): Profiles in the pool are ranked against each other using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), a points-based system. The highest-ranked candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. Upon receiving an ITA, applicants must promptly submit a complete application and pay processing fees within 60 days. The federal government aims to process complete PR applications in just 6 months.

Three Immigration Programs under Express Entry:

1. Canadian Experience Class:
  • For skilled workers with Canadian work experience.
  • Work experience must have been gained in the three years before applying.
2. Federal Skilled Worker Program:
  • For skilled workers with foreign work experience
  • Must meet criteria for education and other factors.
3. Federal Skilled Trades Program:
  • For skilled workers qualified in a skilled trade.
  • Requires a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Through Express Entry: Eligible candidates for the above programs can also apply through Express Entry for the Provincial Nominee Program, gaining additional points for a quicker invitation.

Recent Changes to Express Entry (As of November 16, 2022): Effective November 16, 2022, changes include transitioning to the 2021 version of the National Occupational Classification (NOC), replacing the NOC 2016 skill type and skill level structure with a 6-category system (TEER), updating 4-digit occupation codes to 5-digit codes, and revising eligibility criteria for all NOC-utilizing programs.
